Black Isle Yurts Glamping Scotland

ESCAPE THE RUSH AND EXPLORE YOUR WILD SIDE
The Yurts

Our hand-built yurts are based on traditional designs from Central Asia, where the sturdy structures have been used for thousands of years by nomadic people. They are hand-made from sustainable Black Isle wood by Jenny who changed the traditional felt outer shell to a more durable waterproof canvas to take account of Scotland’s climate. But they retain their snug and cosy feel, especially when the wood burning stove is lit. All our yurts also have windows to allow you to enjoy the natural light and the beautiful surroundings. As each yurt is individually finished, furnished, they are all truly unique. They accommodate between two and five people.
Yurts available for rental include: Holly, Aspen, Rowan, Willow, Juniper, Cherry, Larch and the Hazel Geodome.
OUR YURTS
Larch

Juniper Yurt
was also added at the start of 2016. Like Holly it is quite a steep walk down to this yurt, but we think it is well worth it! At almost 18ft across it feels particularly spacious and is the closest yurt to the beach path. SLEEPS 4

Holly Yurt
is 15ft in diameter and is sited below the Hub so it is a short walk (uphill!) to access the WC and Showers. However, Holly has an exceptional view over the Moray Firth and is the dedicated ‘dog-free’ yurt, sleeping up to 3 adults. CHECK HOLLY AVAILABILITY

Hazel Yurt
OK, so as a geodome, Hazel in not actually a yurt. At 14ft across it is our smallest tent, and is structurally quite different from the yurts, being a fairly modern invention! Hazel has just one double bed but has the same facilties and wood burning stove as all our yurts. Hazel has benefitted from 2 new windows in 2017 – so it is brighter and more open feeling.

Cherry Yurt
Built in in 2017, Cherry is our newest yurt, and boasts an excellent view across to Fort George and Chanonry Point. It is designed for up to 4 guests and is situated between Juniper and Holly Yurts, just below the Hub.

Willow Yurt
Willow Yurt was added at the start of our 2016 season. At twenty feet across, it is by far our biggest to date, and with one double and up to three single beds it accommodates up to five guests. It is the furthest situated yurt from the Hub, at around 250 metres. But is has the benefit of a composting toilet situated nearby. CHECK WILLOW AVAILABILITY

Rowan Yurt
Rowan Yurt sleeps up to 4 guests, is also 16ft across and at 130 metres it is a little further from the Hub than Aspen. It has it’s own picnic bench and affords an excellent level of privacy and tranquility. CHECK ROWAN AVAILABILITY

Aspen Yurt
is 16ft in diameter and is our closest yurt to the Hub. This makes it ideal for those who would prefer to be near to the WC and shower facilities. It is spacious and airy, and comfortably sleeps up to 4 people. CHECK ASPEN AVAILABILITY

Each yurt has:
Each yurt is fully furnished and equipped, to ensure your stay is comfortable and enjoyable:
- A wood burning stove and a basket of firewood
- Comfy beds, duvets, pillows, bed linen and towels
- Table and chairs
- Two hob gas cooker/grill with pots, pans and a kettle
- Cutlery and crockery
- A lockable door
- An outdoor seating area (picnic bench or similar)
As the yurts are off-grid, they are free from mains power and water supply. Instead, we provide solar/hand powered lighting units and a refillable container of fresh water.
Due to popular demand, we are planning new composting toilets to be sited at near to the yurts furthest from the Hub. One is already in place near “Willow”. These are for our guests’ convenience and to provide an alternative to our our other bathroom and toilet facilities at the Hub in times of high demand.
Please note that all the photos on the site are illustrative and exact furnishings may differ from those pictured as we replace and renew items over the course of the seasons. Thank you for your understanding.
OUR LOCATION
The Black Isle is not only one of the most historic and the most beautiful areas of Scotland (in our opinion!). It is also one of the driest, sunniest parts of Scotland, famed for its micro-climate and, thankfully, its relative lack of midges!
We are just a 30 minute drive north of Inverness, the capital city of the Highlands of Scotland, near Fortrose and Rosemarkie.
If you are coming by public transport the number 26 bus service from Inverness brings you to Rosemarkie. From there you will have a walk of between 1 and 2 hours to reach Black Isle Yurts, depending on your levels of energy and fitness.
We are also conveniently placed near the official North Coast 500 route around the Highlands, and all tourers (cars, motorbikes, cycles) are welcome.
