Tranquillity of rural Aberdeenshire

If you’re looking for the perfect location for a luxury camping holiday, the farm has the answer. Set on top of a hill in the tranquillity of rural Aberdeenshire with dramatic cliff top scenery and stunning views over the Moray Firth, you can enjoy a luxurious camping break in the heart of nature.

The farm offers the best of both worlds to camping enthusiasts. A combination of grassy fields, wild coastal beauty, and an abundance of fresh air with all your home comforts including a soft cosy bed, power points for a hairdryer and bathroom facilities. The farm provides a self contained and fully equipped ‘home’.

High Seas Hobbits

The Hobbits retain all the ambience of a camping holiday but offers a great alternative to the tent.

Hidden within the unusual exterior you will find everything you need for your luxury camping holiday; a kettle, microwave, fridge, crockery and cutlery. The comfortable interior is decked out in nautical colours, right down to the blankets and cushions for when you want to tuck yourself away with a good book. In the unlikely event that you tire of the views, there is a TV for your entertainment too.

We have 2 delightful Hobbits, each of which is fully insulated and will keep guests cosy and dry.

One Hobbit has a double bed and two singles, comfortably sleeping up to 4 people. The other Hobbit sleeps 2 people (or 3 if it includes a small person!) and can either be presented with a double bed or two single beds. We are open all year round.

You will notice that the Hobbits are set in their own little field, kept away from the busy world we know. You can enjoy complete privacy here; it’s the perfect place for rest and relaxation, for children to run freely and safely, or for spending quality time with friends and loved ones. The only thing to interrupt your peaceful haven will be the sound of birds singing or cows moo-ing.

To help get your holiday off to a good start, we provide a detailed information pack with information regarding all our facilties and suggested ways to enjoy the area. You can also expect some scrummy home baking when you arrive too.

The Toilet

A few paces away from the Hobbits you will find our toilet. We have transformed a huge front-view-355x500disused whisky barrel from one of  Scotlands Distilleries into a unique and ‘one off’ loo. With its unusual concept and quirky appearance, our toilet caught the eye of Loo of the Year Award judges and subsequently won the prestigeous ‘Home Throne Award’ in 2012. Just remember to bring a torch for any late night visits!

The Fire Pit

Each Hobbit has a separate area for dining and relaxing that faces onto the beautiful Moray Firth. Chairs, tables and a private cooking-500x500fire pit give a unique outdoor space. As the night draws in you can toast marshmallows (or toes) as the flames die down while watching the incredible night sky.

Firewood and kindling is provided at a small cost, as is a selection of pots and pans.
There is a drinking water point and dish washing area, wash basin provided.

Coastal Carriage Banffshire

Our vintage rail carriage makes a fun and romantic alternative to a hotel or guest house. Packed full of character and charm, it will enchant anyone looking for a private, relaxing retreat in the unspoiled Aberdeenshire countryside.

What the Carriage lacks in utilities, is more than made up for with lashings of compensatory comforts (and views). Feed the crackling stove with logs from the basket, fall into a sumptuous double bed after a day spent roaming, let the candles flicker and this modest space will work its gentle magic. You may play board games, enjoy a dram of whisky, talk, read, make music…but one things for sure, you will marvel at the opportunity to sample the simpler, some would say more important, things in life.

Proudly perched on top of a hill with panoramic views of the Moray Firth you will not find a better spot to explore the tucked away treasures of the Banffshire Coast. Quintessential fishing villages, miles of beaches and all within a stones throw away. Dig your toes in the sand and enjoy a classic seaside break with us.

Cooking Facilities

The wood burning stove has great capacity not only to keep you toasty, but also to help you cook. The hot plate is easy to manage and our well equipped cupboards provide all you need to prepare your meals comfortably.

If you’re in a hurry to head off for the day or just don’t feel like lighting the fire, we have a single ring gas stove so you can make a quick breakfast or cup of tea and be on your way.

Shower and Toilet

For a small space, you will be surprised at the large shower room inside the carriage. An authentic bush shower filled with water from either the stove or the gas ring, will help you discover how the pace of life can be slowed down and appreciated. Pull over the shower curtain to protect your modesty or leave it be and enjoy the view!

Our composting loo is cleverly hidden in the centre of a cable reel. It provides everything you need to make a visit here user friendly, and whilst it is al fresco, there can be something quite refreshing about stepping a few yards outside in the chill of the morning to gear you up for the day. There is a sweet vintage night potty for particularly wild nights!

Water and Electricity

The tap water is from our very own spring, perfect for cooking with, but you may prefer to bring your own water to drink.

As you’re in your own private field, there is no electricity. Going without telly, WiFi and a mobile is one thing, but we believe going completely off grid as well adds a certain joyful thrill of disconnectedness to your holiday. (Don’t worry, if the lack of WiFi really is too much for you, we will happily charge your phone for you!)

There is a selection of lanterns and candles for lighting, and although there’s no fridge, we provide a cool box and fresh ice packs every day.

We never tire of the fabulous view, dolphin spotting and on a clear day, counting the Sutherland hills at the other side of the water. If however you fancy a different kind of entertainment, we supply a basket full of board games, dominoes, playing cards and magazines.

Harvest Hut

A great place for a gentle escape or a bit of back to basics adventure

Like a sleeping beauty, this forgotten hut was in desperate need of some love and attention. With a little vision to awaken its charms, Harvest Hut is now a proud haven for those looking for a carefree and relaxed break.

Once used by farm workers for humble accommodation, it has been sensitively converted into a fun and unique living space, which sleeps 3. It continues to be off grid as it would have been throughout its working life and it proudly displays a few hints towards its past. The added luxuries of a wood burning stove, bright and colourful furnishings and proper beds (1 double and 1 single) makes Harvest Hut the ideal getaway from the modern world of smart phones, digital devices and finger tip technology.

Cooking facilities

The Hut has a two burner hob for all your cooking requirements, be that your morning porridge or a hearty supper. We provide all the utensils you’ll need as well as beautiful crockery for you to serve it on.

Harvest Hut is completely off grid, perfect for those seeking to return to a slower, more relaxed pace of life. There is a cosy wood burning stove for when you want to stay warm, solar powered lighting, and bottled water for all your washing requirements.

The toilet

Just next door to the Hut is a private compost loo. Originating from a discarded cable reel, it is simple and rustic yet fun and sufficient.

For some, the tranquillity and beautiful scenery is enough. If not, we recommend you pack books (and head torches), a kite, a Frisbee, guitar, board games, a camera, binoculars and not forgetting walking boots to allow you to explore the nearby deserted beaches and hidden coves.
