THE IRON AGE ROUNDHOUSE
Marthrown Roundhouse – sleeps up to 16.
Only 125 metres over the hill from Marthrown Bunkhouse(yet it seems like a world away) you come upon a truly awesome sight. Nestled amongst the trees in a clearing is an authentic replica of a Celtic Iron Age Roundhouse. As part of the site there is an outdoor (but private) hot shower, a dry composting loo and urinal all set in beautiful wooden buildings. The Roundhouse has new 5* ‘Iron Age Facilities’
We now have 2 beautiful dry composting loos up at the Roundhouse complete with electric lights!! Mike is so very proud of them (how sad!!!!!). He reckons that any Iron Age dweller would fought battles for a loo like that! They are built in to a new little Roundhouse – we knocked the old one down and started again. It really is very pretty – Jem thatched it and gave it a heather ventilation ‘hat’. Come and try it out when you get the chance – this truly is a poo with a difference!!!! If you truly want to live the Iron Age life there is a large wood burner which cunningly convertsto an open fire in the middle of the roundhouse on which you can cook your meals or even justmake a brew. However for those who want an easier life tasty home-made meals are also available to order down at the bunkhouse (advance notice required). This venue makes the perfect place for a private party – Stag/Hen weekends, Birthday Parties, A Get-together with friends A wedding with a difference Electricity can be provided for music though lighting is generally by candles to add to the ambience. All you need to bring are sleeping bags, food and drink we supply a full range of cooking equipment, crockery, cutlery, etc. We also have a built-in BBQ for you to use. For groups wanting to use a sound system we ask that they book exclusive use of the yurt and camping area as wellas the Roundhouse site so the music can run through the night without disturbing anybody! To personalise your party why not visit www.kuberoom.com a local company where you can order bespoke printed t-shirts, polo shirts, etc.
THE FOREST BUNKHOUSE
Marthrown Bunkhouse has a total of 26 bed spaces spread over 4 rooms: “Annan” bunkhouse has 8 beds – 4 sets of bunks “Esk” bunkhouse has 7 beds – 1 single and 3 sets of bunks “Lower Nith” has 6 beds – 3 sets of bunks “Upper Nith” has 4 beds – a king size and 3 singles Bottom sheet, pillow and pillowcase are provided. Duvets and bath towels are available to hire. Additional Kitchen at the Bunkhouse We had been aware for some time that pressure for use of the kitchen on busy weekends (particularly when Pam is catering for one group and there are other self catering groups) had caused some stress on all parties. With this in mind we have converted the old pantry – at the opposite end of the dining room to the existing kitchen. This has now been completed and should make meal times a far more relaxed affair in the future. Nith bunkhouse has a cosy lounge with a wood burning stove for those chilly evenings where you can gather round and chat. There is also a DVD/Video player and a selection of films. The Esk /Annan has a multi-fuel stove which heats radiators in those two bunkhouses as well as being a nice place to sit and natter! To make it easier on Mum and Dad we can provide a cot and a bed guard for families. We also we have a highchair, books, toys and games which you are welcome to use. Outside there is a play area for football, badminton, volleyball or basket ball along with hot tub, sauna and BBQ area.

Tucked away in the forest we have a woodland camping area. As part of the site there is an outdoor (but private) hot shower, a dry composting loo and urinal all set in beautiful wooden buildings. We have recently flattened off and re-seeded some new areas in the forest to provide more family sized pitches.
MARTHROWN CALLENGE COURSE
Over the summer we developed the Marthrown Challenge Course, where we have converted one of the low ropes elements of our ropes course into an area that everyone can use, without the need of helmets or an instructor etc. All we ask is that under 16’s are supervised by a responsible adult. Go ahead folks have fun – see if you can get all the way round without touching the ground. Note: We haven’t called it a playground because that would mean guaranteeing you couldn’t get a rope burn or a splinter and we couldn’t do that but ……..! Well we’re honest – if you are worried about that don’t do it but if you’re not and up for a challenge….
MARTHROWN HOT TUB & SAUNA
In the grounds we have an authentic Finnish Sauna and a wood-fired Hot Tub which many of our clients think is an ideal way to relax after a hard day in the saddle or wandering in the woods. If you are here for a party it certainly adds an extra dimension! Just let us know what time you would like to use it and we’ll get the sauna lit ready for you.
