In a hidden valley surrounded by trees, hills and wildlife you will find four cosy camping cabins, hardstanding for a small campervan and a small tent pitch.
Wild Oak Woods Eco-campsite sits in a 54 acre wildlife reserve half a mile from Sandyhills bay and the South West 300.
If you are in to the outdoors, stunning scenery and nature you will love this tiny campsite which offers a multitude of beautiful walks, mountain bike tracks, golf courses and historic sites close by and a pub and restaurant just a short walk away.
At Wild Oak Woods we are passionate about providing back to nature holiday experiences in the most environmental friendly way we can.
Wild Oak Woods is an off grid campsite consisting of four camping huts with compost toilets, a small tent space and two campervan spaces. Accommodation in the camping hut field can use the facilities block showers, kitchen and level access toilet and the bottom campervan space is parking only.
Wild Oak Woods is quiet, family friendly site though please note due to the nature of the site children must be supervised at all times. Well behaved dogs can be accommodated by prior arrangement and must be kept on leads in the campsite and nature reserve.
Just a short walk from the campsite clearing you will find The Beagle Country Pub and restaurant, Bainloch Deer Park and Café is adjacent to that campsite and there are a number of other local eateries close by, some of which serve fantastic local produce. Sandyhills Bay Beach is a half mile walk from the hut site and has a small campsite shop and Colvend village shop stocks a wide range of foods and things you may have forgotten.
Family activities such as Den building are available on site for a small fee or you can book an Eco-tour or the popular guided Night Walk round the nature reserve.
There are a multitude of beautiful walks close to the campsite including the coastal path from Sandyhills to Rockcliffe and Kippford and the wood is right next to Dalbeattie forest which boasts one of the 7 Stanes Mountain Bike tracks. Many historic sites are just a short car ride away such as the Corn Mill at New Abbey and Threave Castle and gardens at Castle Douglas. There are a number of golf courses nearby such as Colvend Golf Course and Dumfries and Galloway is renowned for its fabulous food producers such as Cream of Galloway who make ice-cream and offer a fantastic day out for all the family.
Site staff are usually around to suggest great places to walk and eat or assist if you have a problem and with just a small number of pitches you can meet like-minded people and still have plenty of room for social distancing.
